Beautiful night, I love the rain. I didn't quite enjoy the night ride bus trip from Wynyard station to North Sydney though, it's irritating that the bus makes a stop at Milson's Point station and takes a long round loop to get back to the Pacific Highway.

Anyway it has been ages since I blogged and I just feel like doing so tonight.

Just came back from a great catch up dinner with peeps at Hotel Chambers and dessert at Max Brenner.

So much going on in my head but physically I'm knackered, I want to call it a night.

Haircut

I got ripped off getting a haircut today!

I absolutely hate haggling over haircuts and I dislike Asian dodgyness.

Won't be going to the same haircut place again (though I have enjoyed my last two visits there).

I've just noticed the difference this year when I resolved to do things different, limit my time on the internet, dedicate time to learning new things and the things I used to love before the advent of the internet.

I love blogging and writing but I don't have any meaningful thoughts on any subject matter at the moment!

perhaps my work colleague's one year old son, he is just so adorable! Makes me think about fatherhood and what my colleague has had to go through this last year.

I envious (in the good sense of the word) that he has a beautiful family and that he is doing so well.

We had a farewell lunch for him last week and he brought his family there. Another solicitor in my office was feeding his son chips which he loved, that image is so strong in my brain. Hard to describe the kind and playful scene that I observed.

Coffs Harbour

I'm in Coffs airport.

It's rainy, it's cold but I'm not feeling too bad except for a mild headache (I always get it when its damp).

I've had a good experience of Coffs, nice hotel, good food, a little wining and dining here and there, a little work, pleasant company.

I even got to use the sauna and spa pool this morning at 7:30. I soaked there for half and hour whilst watching it drip.

I miss home, anyway will be back in little over an hour.

I was reminded that life is worth living and God's beautiful creation when I saw two rainbow lorikeets perched side by side on a railing at an apartment I inspected this morning.

Merry Christmas to all!

I'm in Melaka, grateful to have a net connection at home for the first time!

Just came back from a church service at the historical Christchurch along Melaka river which has a history spanning back to 1800.

I was reminded that it is Christmas and of God's gift. Funny how you can get lost in time and lost in Christmas, especially being so "blur" like me!

I've enjoyed my holiday so far, done a bit of reflecting and I've enjoying spending time with my relatives (not all the time to be honest).

Here's to a wonderful Christmas and a peaceful and brighter 2009!

Wow it's been a long time since I last posted.

The title of this blog sounds like the beginning of a hit Aaliyah song.

She was hot in the day, quite a tragedy that her life ended so abruptly in those circumstances.

I was watching Hellboy2 today and there was something poignant which I did not observe the first time I watched it.

"Men have a whole in their hearts, that neither power, wisdom or anything can fill".

How true it that? How funny that it should come out in a comic book movie!

I know that the director is a catholic and this is a humanitarian/Christian theme.

I'm feeling that emptiness at the moment. Well that interspersed with anxiety, vexation and a host of other negative feelings.

junk food bliss

I took the day off to do my Finsia exam today.

Straight after my exam I was elated! I felt so happy, I walked to Wentworth park light rail station and I felt that the weight of the whole world was lifted off my shoulders. I love the post exam feeling of blissful happiness!

Upon arrival at Central I went straight to Hungry Jacks and ordered the "Dark Knight" meal. Omg, it was tasted so good!

Hmm.. the aftertaste is still in my mouth now, five hours after I consumed it. I love the crispy golden yellow fries and the taste of beef, onion and bbq sauce!

I've been craving nachos for time immemorial.

Every time I think of uni I'm reminded of the fantastic nachos that used to be served at Colonade food court.

I haven't eaten the stuff for a long time (was my last time at Chillis in KL?).

I'm reminded that Pancakes on the Rocks does a pretty mean serving.

But I had what had to be the best nacho in Sydney tonight at Verandah Bar.

$14 for a huge serving. I embarassed myself by being a real pig and finishing off all the guacamole.

Being in a rush

I was always in a rush back in uni, thinking back, it all started when I was in high school.

Being in a competitive asian environment will do that to you haha

Just thinking back on what Pastor Andy preached last Sunday at pulse, taking the time out to reflect on God's creation etc etc

I'm much happier that I have a better balance in my life. It's not just about study anymore, enjoying life and appreciate people, blessings in life, God.

So I've made it a point to take an interest in other things besides what I know and what I'm comfortable with.

When you can't sleep at 12:49am and thinking about what to blog about your grammar and punctuation go all haywire.

I've been gymming for a year now and I have been moderately happy with my progress.

I can do cardio for half an hour and not be dead bored on the treadmill, I can go on the cross trainer on level 9 and 10 for fifteen minutes and be ïn the zone, I can do push ups!

Well, my list of achievements aren't that impressive but I guess I'm happy that I can be disciplined enough to dedicate a few hours to exercise. I feel about that =)

I'm happy that my tummy is starting to flatten out! Abs, that's my goal, really want to get rid of the beer keg (note to self, stop drinking beer!).

Went to the Aroma Coffee Festival this afternoon at the Rocks, it was mad! Had a great time just walking around and browsing, enjoying people's company. It was a nice change, I think that life is about such happy times.

I read two articles online today which makes me think about the impact humans are having on the environment.

There's no doubt the earth is hotting up and if nothing is done about the carbon emissions from coal plants and other human industrial activity the earth and life on earth will be doomed in 50 years.

The other disturbing thing I read is that the Earth's fishing supplies are declining. The Japanese are blaming whales for the decline and using this to condone 'scientific research' (i.e. slaughter).

Scary stuff, I'm going to stop eating beef to ensure that the Amazon isn't cut down for more cattle grazing grounds.

Another great movie out, go watch it if you get the chance.

I remember reading the Narnia books as a kid and not really understanding them. The movie is great and does differ from the book but I think this is one rare occassion where the book is better than the movie.

Movie was shot in New Zealand (the shot where the Pevensie kids return to Narnia was shot in Cathedral Cove) and Slovenia. Brilliant visuals and CGI is fantastic.

Though I do love my job and the people at work, things do occassionally do get 'bumpy' and today for the first time I showed my scary face to someone who did not expect it.

It was weird, although it was unintentional, it worked.

It was an inner strength, or maybe a strength released from within with the help of someone above?

In any case, I hate being 'antsy'with anyone and being a very meek creature, love peace more than war.

I am struck by the innocence of those around me who show a love and passion for God that I have not felt for some time. I feel like the proverbial seed that was dropped on shallow soil, a plant sprouted from the seed but was choked by weeds and burnt by the sun.

It is difficult being me, but everyone has problems and I'm so grateful sometimes for the small things in life.

As a result of leaving only $10 in my bank account this week, for the first time in many a year I was left stranded with $5 at lunch time in martin place in the city. I was not left with much after getting a pie for $3.50, my money slowly dwindled as I bought a coke zero and other miscellaneous items. Finally at 5.45pm today, I had 25c left in my pocket. A very humbling experience.

My cousin just sent me some snaps of his family taken at the ""Ohanami" festival in Japan.

Beautiful snaps, cherry blossoms in the park. "Hana"means flowers in Japanese, "Mi"refers to "viewing or looking"" - flower viewing in a park in Shinjuku in Spring weather. Sounds like heaven!

I'm stuck on youtube watching movie trailers.

I want to watch "forgetting Sarah Marshall". It's got Jason Segel as the male lead, you may recognise him as Marshall from "How I met your mother".

He's got a very good natured look about him and a look that makes me wanna laugh.

Also out on the silverscreen is "Semi pro"starring Will Ferrell. Looks good too!

With my C2 Finsia exam out of the way I feel as free as a bird! I can't wait to get to work tomorrow (I know I'll regret saying this!) but I can't wait to get back to normality and to life back in the office.

Before I get onto the subject of this blog I'd just like to say that things in the past seem better because they were better and not because I am progressing through my mid-twenties.

As a kid you do not have independence and you are shelted from the outside world, you don't have to make decisions for yourself and life is simple. Receiving a treat is simply that, receiving a treat and small things that I remember now of what it was like then are indeed precious memories.

Anyway, onto a much more simple issue. I'm trying to work out what brew of beer I drank on Monday night at 6.30pm at the NSW Leagues Club. It was sweet, very very sweet and ice cold. Better than Asahi, which I rate highly, much better than Cascade, of which I had two very large schooners this afternoon. If anybody out there would like to hazard a guess, please leave a comment so I can track it down next time I feel the urge to "down my sorrows" haha.

How is it that the past seems more fun, simple and pure?

I remember Saturday nights as a kid. A borrowed video from the local civic video could bring so much joy and entertainment.

Granted, I did spend the whole day at work on a Finsia assignment racking my brains as to how to calculate various financial ratios and getting massively confused from verbose seemingly nonsensical Finsia issued notes but Saturday nights ten years ago seemed more fun.

It's already been a week since all you can eat Osaka cuisine and Sake! Time flies, more so when you're working Monday to Friday 9 to 5.

New laptop

My new laptop was couriered to me yesterday.

Whilst at work I felt like a kid at Christmas, I felt a great sense of anticipation as I waited for the call that would tell me that my present had arrived.

So I'm using it now to post on my blog.

I bought a Dell Inspiron 1420. It's ok, it seems hardy and the finishing is not bad, definitely a lot better than years ago when Dell first started flogging laptops on the market.

I'm not so satisfied with Windows Vista though, it's clunky, unintuitive and slow! I should have bought a Mac. I miss my desktop with XP but I use it at work anyway.

Anyway I'm stuck with it now so better learn how to use the damn thing.

Sleepless night

I haven't had a sleepless night in a while which has been a good thing.

Life has been a little hectic with work, finsia study, gym, church and all the other stuff that I want to do.

Maybe I try to do too many things all at the same time?

I was just reading on the seven new Sony Ericsson phones released today. The Xperia X1 looks like a beauty!

I've more than 3/4 through the book that I'm reading, "Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follet. It's quite an enjoyable read although I do get annoyed when I read about all the bad stuff the main antagonist, William Ralleigh gets up to.

Ok going to try sleeping again.

I haven't posted a blog for months and it is about time for an update.

I'm not sure how popular blogs are anymore but I'm blogging for my own sake nonetheless!

I've just finished uploading my pics from my camera and I'm now wishing for a bigger and better camera.

It's good to be on holiday, my days are running short and I'm missing home.

I feel rejuvenated and I know I will miss the company of my relos once I get back to my life back in Sydney.

Anyway I resolve to make the most of the time I have left and to enjoy myself as much as I can before Friday!

Its probably the funniest thing on the box nowadays hehe.

Drugs has been a huge issue in the media lately but surprisingly both sides of the election campaign don't seem to have strong policies on the issue.

I'm a bit ambivalent about the whole thing, but I do feel a little sorry for the footy stars who have been disgraced due to their addictions. The current headline on the SMH is Ben Cousin's sacking from West Coast Eagles. I'm reminded of Andrew John's unceremonious "fall from grace" a few months back too. Should I even feel sorry for them? I'm sure lots of people and talk back radio personalities would disagree but I find it slightly tragic to see people in high places stoop so low.

Something new

I did something I've never done before. Today together with about 15 members of Bluesky (Wesley church university ministry) I took a trip to a Juvenile Detention Centre in Sydney's South West.

My calf muscles ache as I write this entry. I'm thinking about the great time we had earlier this afternoon just playing touch footy (a sport I very much suck at) with 15 year old kids who are very much disadvantaged in society.

The trip today was an eye opener. I'll be very honest and frank and say that I was intimidated at first but I'm also proud that I was able to muster all my courage to step it up and make an effort to bridge a gap and do something that I would not normally do.

It was great to experience the enthusiasm and the passion of bluesky. It's truly encouraging to see people just go out there and be active =)

Abuse

I forgot to write about the serious issue.

My friend came to work today with red lines on his face and neck. He was in a bad mood. He explained why.

He had a fight with his girlfriend. It got nasty and he scratched. She has long finger nails.

My friend is one of the nicest guys I've ever met. He may act tough, wear bling, have piercings but he wouldn't hurt a fly. He got a new puppy and he allows it to sleep in his bed for goodness sake.

I reckon guys can get it just as bad as girls. We've been bombarded lately with anti-abuse against women but what about guys who get abused by their female partners?

Five outta five ain't bad

My task this week has been to get five sworn and witnessed affidavits. As of Friday afternoon 5:30pm my mission was accomplished!

I've summarised a week's worth of work in one sentence, this doesn't do justice to trauma I've suffered this week.

A patronising barrister, irate uninformed client, incompetent Justice of the Peaces, witnesses on holidays in caravan parks!!!

Anyway I'm happy, I thought I would only get 4 affidavits done this week. In fact I was counting on it so I left the office 4pm with my supervisor's permission to get my driver's licence renewed. And then Murphy's law strikes, I get a call, Mr Darwin (not his real name) got the affidavit I couriered out to him and was ready to swear it. "Shimatta" (Crap!) I was already at Wynyard station a stone's throw away from the RTA Registry. I give brief instructions to my solicitor concerning the Justice of the Peace, enter the Registry and get my licence renewed in less than 10 minutes and then walk back to work!

To cut a long story short I got it done, it feels satisfying to meet the court mandated deadline.

I watched Hairspray tonight! It was good, funny, musical and entertaining. The best scene would have to be when John Travolta and Christopher Walken patch up and start a song and dance amongst clothing lines =)

Forgive my title, it's a direct quotation from the first song in High School Musical 2. It's particularly apt to how I'm feeling like now. The temperature is summer, the sun feels like summer and the cricket is on TV.

The teams I tipped to win this past long weekend have failed me. Both Geelong on Sat and Storm yesterday had huge resounding wins, good on them both. I'm glad I didnt' put any money on the losing teams at Sportstab hehe

This year's idol hasn't been very good up until yesterday. The acoustic theme really worked, it was great to see the final 9 show their musicality and instrument performance qualities.

Facebook is a killer, it's hard not to get sucked into the world of online stalking.

It used to be about playing scrabble and powering up my pet Aerith, now it's just a addiction.

I attended a catch up dinner tonight at a friend's place. Full kudos to my friend who organised the whole thing even though she was sick. It was really nice to socialise with old people, to talk, eat, drink (Coke and water only) and be merry.

So this week it's gonna be finalising my job application and focussing. Praying that this is the right thing for me. How long is it going to take?

My faithful DVD writer is not so faithful anymore :( It can't even open, so much for build quality these days.

Weird thing is that it can still read DVDs ... geez ... looks like I will take up my brother's offer on a new DVD writer.

I was just trawling through people's blogs a second ago and I came across something of a revelation. Spiritual attacks, they occur, I shouldn't just dismiss them as depressed or anxious feelings. How many times in my life have I felt suddenly down due to negative thoughts in my head? Are they from me or another source? In answer to my own half rhetoric question I think both. I just never thought that negative feelings and emotions are spiritual attacks in disguise.

Two Bruce Willis movies in two days.

Die Hard 4.0 was the worst movie I've seen this year, quite disappointing really even with all the star power. Justin Long can't shake the funny, nerdy persona he usually plays but he's not bad in the movie.

Perfect Stranger is good but, Halle Berry looks fantastic and the story is semi-believable.

Tickets for the upcoming Justin Timberlake tickets sold out in 15 minutes today, I know because the secretary who sits next to me got tickets just before the ticketek system crashed.

The subject on this post is about junk food, it comes back to haunt you!

I've lost weight according to the scales, I now weigh a healthy 69kg (can be improved). But a friend confirmed what I suspected these few weeks, my face cheeks have been getting flabbier!

I've been drinking "sodas" every lunch time this week (I convinced myself that Coke Zero was healthy), I ate way too much at Japanese tonight and I've been filling my jelly belly with too much Pearl tea :(

My addiction to Easyway has led to this crisis... back to eating home made sandwiches and the odd toasted foccacia from the cafes near Botanical Gardens (yummy eggplant and sun dried tomato). Water shall be only drink.

I have a week left of being 24. And as Pastor Andy Stanley pointed out in the DVD sermon I watched this evening, you only get to be 24 once! Our time is indeed precious, limited and cannot be stored.

In a way i'm not as anxious about the quarter century mark which beckons me next week. Although I will miss being in the 18-24 category I should be thankful of life and it's not all doom and gloom ahead (unlike the stockmarket).

Tonight after work I boarded a bus from Elisabeth Street and made my way to... UNSW!

It's been a while since uni, oh wait, yes I did accompany my cousin to uni earlier in February this year, but I didn't see the new law faculty so that doesn't really count ;)

I was pleasantly surprised. The new faculty is brand spanking new, swank, modern and looks like a giant spaceship!

The reason for my sojourn tonight is the subject of this little post. Justice McHugh, who left school at 15 and worked in a variety of odd jobs before he became a lawyer, gave what I consider to be an interesting talk. The topic was: how High Court decisions (specifically how doctrines and interpretation of the Constitution with respect to Federal and State powers) have impacted on the governance of Australia.

Hal Wooten, the founder of the UNSW law school, was present and gave a short talk after McHugh finished. I was inspired by his passion and his intellect.

Professor George Williams (I remember having him for Public Law class!) was also present a shared a few "counterpoints" of his. He was Associate to Justice McHugh in the early 1990s (1992).

The Commonwealth Solicitor General was somewhere in the audience and McHugh made a few tongue in cheek remarks haha

It's Saturday night and it's been a fulfilling day spent at home. I'm the housekeeper at the moment in the absence of the primary housekeeper so I was busy the whole morning cleaning, cleaning and you guessed it, more cleaning!

It hasn't been all chores though, took some time out to relax and watch "White Chicks" again for like the billionth time.

So it's the month of the August and my last chance to live life as an "twenty XX year old".

I've spent a very nice and relaxing weekend at home! I've completed and filed my tax return over the net via Etax 2007 and I've cleaned the house.

I watched Academy award nominated Morgan Spurlock's "Supersizeme" last night and I enjoyed it though I was grossed out at times.

Feeling happy feeling sad

I must be a masochist or something, strangely I feel happy feeling sad. Maybe my sadness isn't that sad, it's a more happy sad if that means anything. I enjoy being melancholy, that's it!

It's not helping that I'm listening to Snow Patrol at 11pm whilst reading tax and financial articles online on yahoo finance.

But yeah I'm ok, I thought that today would be a disaster but things worked out well in the end. I'll remember to 'chin up' and pick myself up after I make mistakes.

Today the fifth instalment of the billion dollar grossing phenomenon that is Harry Potter opened up in cinemas Sydney wide. I would have loved to watch it tonight but unfortunately I had a prior engagement, mando private lesson after work.

My lesson went well, I'm re-learning stuff I've forgotten. My vocab has improved a lot and I'm much more confident expressing myself now. I'm slowly 'falling in love' with this language from North East asia, I'm appreciating the northern accent much more now.

Fitness Test Results

I can't say that I was overly anxious about my fitness test results, I was expected a high cardio score and I was right, my cardio level is that of healthy male 18 year old =)

My other results weren't as outstanding however, I have the flexibility of a 60 year old!!!

Oh dear, I can't reach the tip of my toes whilst sitting down, that's my new goal in life.

Hm... I think I'll go eat the custard apple in front of me now.

I got admitted as a lawyer today! Wow, its a good thing yet I'm nonplussed.

I'm always like this, why can't I be happy and take pride in anything?

Anyway thanks to God that I've come out the other end of the tunnel, although I still gotta work for a solicitor position.

Fitness first

After a good day at the office today went down to the gym for my fitness test.

My personal trainer is from Slovakia, he's English isn't fantastic but he's alright nonetheless.

He got me to stand on a pair of high tech weigh scales (digital). I was so happy with the result!
I thought I weighed about 76kg or something, I told him I wanted to get down to 65kg. Turns out I don't have to lose 11kg to be at my ideal weight, only need to loose about 5kg hehe

Pets

I'm addicted to the Pets application in facebook, so sad but true. Facebook is so lame per se, its interface isn't intuitive and it's hard as hell trying to find a person's wall which is what I want to do half the time.

Anyway 'pets' is facebook's redeeming feature, the one and only good thing. I'm attracting the ire of die hard facebook users all over, I know.

I missed Michael Buble by seconds this morning! I'm kicking myself, should I left home 2 minutes earlier, taken the earlier train and see a star in real life instead of watching him on T.V.

I like the song he performed on Sunrise this morning, the only song I like sung by him is "Home".

So what happened to Jessica Alba on Wednesday morning? There was nothing outside Channel 7 studios then =( No chance to see her for a second time.

I've got two days of work training ahead of me, which I'm looking forward to. A friend who has gone through it before tells me the lunch will be worth it, I'm looking forward to it too.

Back to the topic of this post, my spiralling HECS debt! I took a lot at a statement from last year, it shocked me! How I should have paid more attention to the fine print and the figure of 2.8% indexation. Oh dear, I envision many years of debt to the Commonwealth government.

Anyway I'm going to make a voluntary payment to reduce the outstanding balance. Should've made it earlier.

Is blogging obsolete? In the face of 'facebook', myspace and others, blogging seems to have become a not so popular pasttime.

I have stubbornly refused to be part of the Facebook phenomenon until now. It's hardly revolutionary, an online networking site set up initially for American college students which now allows everyone and anyone.

Anyway I have my reasons for joining, primarily peer pressure, well not so much peer pressure as the need to see my friends photos of Europe haha.

I have nearly survived my first week at my new workplace and torrential downpour in Martin Place this morning. Weather forecast predicts another 48 hours of 'English' weather, can't wait!

A local legend

I got so carried away with my silly introspective thoughts last post that I forgot about writing my thoughts on a true local legend, pioneering endoscopic neurosurgeon Charlie Teo(Teoh?) who was featured in a segment on last Sunday's episode of 60 minutes.

I couldn't help but be inspired by his life, his lifestyle and his confidence. As he himself admitted, "there is a thin line between arrogance and confidence". What is this difference?

His work is truly amazing, he can pull out brain tumours out of children through incisions under the eyebrow and talk to a reporter at the same time. His hand remains study as his performs surgery, his voice calm and relaxed. Mucho fantastico!

The criticisms of him sound so petty, indeed I think his work and his clients pay testimony to his ability and humility as a neurosurgeon. Another case of tall poppy syndrome...

I'm using Chatswood station as a metaphor of my life, but what has happened to Chatswood station?

It was just a random thought, me walking exiting the station gates, walking through the interchange to the steps and descending the steps to Chatswood mall. Lunch with dad after the selective high school test at Chatswood high, Saturday mornings during high school times, countless visits to the optometrist, lunch with Sat chinese class friends at the interchange, yum cha with family.

Random memories from my past. Things have changed, just like the interchange which has been completely demolished and remade into something bigger and better.

Anyway don't know how the thought of Chatswood station could suddenly turn me so introspective all of a sudden. All I was doing was coming up with potential answers for potential interview questions whilst simulatenously surfing the net for family guy clips.

Late night interviews in dodgy areas

I unexpectedly received a call from a potential employer today and we schedule an interview at 5.30pm this evening. So I took a bus from Elisabeth Str and made my way to Taylor Square (Toolshed - now you know where I'm talking about haha) got off, randomly walked toward St Vincent's hospital only to find out I was walking in the wrong direction. Anyway to cut a long complicated story short I found my way to this firm and had a relatively pleasant interview. After the interview I decided to walk from Oxford Street back to Town Hall for fun, and it didn't disappoint. Strangely I was happy, even being nearly knocked over by cyclists (twice) and feeling apprenhensive in certain dodgy areas.

Sunday headache

I've just woken up from a three hour slumber. Head felt an acute pain after coming back from church this afternoon, haven't had a headache for ages, this one was probably a result of too much chocolate, not enough water and not wearing my sunnies in hot and glazy weather.

My swimming stamina has improved =) Went for a swim after work on Friday, was a good work out but had to share the pool with some rather 'aggro' swimmers.

Slowly falling asleep

I'm slowly but inevitably falling fast asleep in front of my pc monitor. I hope I don't just suddenly drop and hit my head on my nice keyboard.

Oh well, anyway it's the 26th April 2007, my brother's 22nd birthday and it has gone by so quickly. We had dinner at Sakanaya on request of my bro, it was good, pricey, strangely filling though.

My stomach if full of cake, two slices of original Cheesecake and a generous portion of a triple decker Freddo ice-cream cake, I didn't even now such delicacies existed!

Anyway I can take comfort in the fact that I've lost weight, or it appears to be judging from some of the photographs I took at dinner tonight.

Back from Camp!

After yakiniku (Japanese BBQ) and subsequent gastro problems on Friday night woke up nice and early Saturday morning so that I could get to Club O OC Camp in Mt Victoria, Blue Mountains. Arrived more or less at 11am just in time for Game 2.

Camp was great, way more physical than I expected. It was the physically the most rough and competitive church camp that I've ever been to. The games were fun, I especially liked water bomb volleyball and tug of war.

Anyway I'm not feeling too eloquent at the moment so I'll just summarise with a nice pic of my group at camp which a friend sent me =)

My poor neglected blog

Remembered to read other peoples' blogs and then remembered about my own poor neglected blog, aw...

So Easter has come and gone, the working has started again and I'm back to writing cover letters, or rather cutting and pasting... hmm.. haha.. actually not today... I'm starting from scratch for a new position which has caught my eye.

So today I was feeling positively bright as I took cityrail on my soujourn to the city. The train trip took surprisingly short, I was thinking all these brilliant ideas, and not lamenting at the things which always bring me down.

I was watching "Insight" tonight. The topic was "happyness", people from all walks of life including renown Economist Ross Gittins, were talking about happyness, what makes us happy, etc etc... It was an insightful discussion, there was a young guy "coming to the defence of materialism" as the source of happyness, how deluded he is. I think he totally has it wrong, and most of the people in the debate thought so too. I liked a young high school/uni age student's definition of happyness, which is basically a comparative of George Orwell's 1984.

I'm researching the KPMG website for info on the company in preparation for my interview 3pm this Wednesday. I've never had a interview at a megaorganisation before so this will be first! Anyway fingers crossed and faith in God that its meant for me and I'll get the job ;)

Today attended a friend's wedding at St Thomas Anglican church in North Sydney, so close to school! Very nice ceremony and it was really meaningful. Nice place to get married, church was one of those old traditional cathedral type churces but not gothic.

Anyway, I've been enjoying my temp paralegal assignments over the last three weeks. Its been really fun getting to meet new people in the same boat as me and experiencing work in different law firms across the city.

I was in a big firm on Thursday located in 1 Farrer Place, which was really slick. Huge building, reminds me of those huge skyscrapers in Hong Kong and Singapore.

Brother's graduation

Another milestone! Little bro's graduation at UNSW.

He was lucky, it was as if God smiled down us as the clouds parted and the sun shone albeit a little too brightly.

The ceremony was over in little more than an hour, David Gonski, Chancellor gave a speech closely resembling the one I heard at my own graduation but he managed to charm and impress us again.
On the other hand the speech given by the Managing Director of Australian Broadcasting Corporation was a little irrelevant and sounded more like a promotion of his own company. But I get his point though, people should consider working in the public service to contribute more to the community.

So lest I forget the two pieces of advice the chancellor gave the graduands today, number 1:- Alumni and number 2:- community.

So I'm worn out from travelling north, east to north again, to south and then northwest.

Looking forward to the future

What do I have to fear? Since coming back old fears, problems and insecurities have surfaced. What has changed? Not much!

I've got my "mojo" back, at a time most unexpected. Took a walk after dinner and watching "Bondi Surf Rescue", my perspective changed and I've once again found that fire that I seem to lose! So I'm looking forward to the future again ^^

So tomorrow is my brother's graduation which I'm looking forward to. At this time last year it was my turn funnily enough. Hope that the weather report clears up tomorrow morning and we'll have some sun ;)

Upsetting things

I was going to blog about how the guy on Top Gear, BBC show about cars, was quite upsetting. I don't like the host guy, he's just mean. Don't like how he makes fun of others. Anyway I do like the show though, I thought it funny how a greyhound can beat an Mx5 around a track.

Upsetting thing number two:- Cityrail! After taking more than twice as long to get home and enduring another uncomfortable tiring ride home on the train tonight its strikes me that nothing has improved since I left. It's shocking that the undoubtedly most prosperous and developed city in Australia has a transport system worse than developing nations'. Even K.L trains come on time, somebody do something!

Upsetting thing number three:- lack of good government for fair New South Wales. Both Labor and Liberal have no adequate plans to improve public transportation and the state for that matter. Why should the premier state be stuck with bad politicians?! Doesn't make sense to me.

you overeat after dinner. I had, in the following order:- ski berry light yoghurt, brie cheese, two slices of brown bread with two slices of kraft cheese, 20g of dark chocolate, 7.5ml of Sprite and half a quart of milk. It's not going down well!

Family guy relief

Now watching family guy for post OC finale watching relief. Feeling very distressed after watching the end of a T.V show which I've watched since 2003, well more or less watched as I didn't really tune in 4th season.

It was poignant, in a O.C type of way, but I guess I'm upset as it marks an end of an another era. High school dramas don't have the same affect on me anymore, its time to embrace the beginning of the end of youth and the embrace impending middle agedness.

Sad but true, but not all is lost. Anyway getting back on topic, I liked the finality of the series and how Sandy Cohen's words, "things have a way of coming back" do ring true, not just in relation to T.V shows but in relation to life.

Ok back to family guy so I can sleep properly tonight. Nothing like high quality puerile humour.

Bleary eyed on Sat night

I'm staring at my pc screen, just feel like writing, feel like escaping the world and its problems for just a little while and lose myself in something else.

Had a full on day. Woke up, got ready to get out and then noticed that one of my fish looked sick. Quickly measured the prescribed dose using the formula on the back of the fish medicine bottle, added the green and blue solution, fed the fish and ran off. Arrived at Homebush tennis centre 12.10 and had a bit less than three hours hours of tennis in the midday sun. Wah so tiring!

Iceblock in the pro-shop/tennis booking office, cooled down and then lunch at Rhodes shopping centre. Hm Japanese food...cold soba with extra "shoyu" and wasabi. haha got confused when paying the bill but worked it out in the end, all good!

Attended a 21st, disney/pixar theme. Was fun, tiring, a little nostalgic. Now I'm at home, tired, legs sore despite my stretching this afternoon before tennis, a little depressed and looking for escapism. Look forward to stretching out on my bed and reading "Eldest", the sequel to "Eragon" before nodding off.

The fickleness of me

Sometimes I wonder marvel at how fickleminded and "taohong" I can be. My mood changes seems to change like the wind sometimes, I can be really put off for a long time and then suddenly some good news comes in the email and my whole day changes! Well, thank God for that and I pray that I can be a little more consistent and mature in my thinking. Voicing out my opinions and feelings is important but there's also times when opinions and feelings should be kept to oneself.

Anyway I've been learning vital lessons and I'm so happy that I'm starting to get into my self-created routine.

I re-orientated myself to Sydney tonight. I took my cousin for a long walk from Wynyard station down to King Street Wharf, to Pyrmont Bridge and Star City Casino through Darling Harbour to Chinatown and finally back to Townhall. It was really nice just being out and about watching all the Friday night party goers go about their thing. I must admit it was a bit strange to see the mix of people who live in Sydney, different from the scene in K.L. Asians look different here and thankfully I no longer freak out when I see white people! (apologies to any Aussies out there). Initially when I came back i found it really strange to see white folk, it was different in K.L when the white folk were expatriates or tourists.

Anyway Sydney is as bustling as it is on Friday nights. The evening sky was beautiful and the water looked really nice tonight too. And I should add that it was really nice having a Cityrail train turn up on time to take us home hehe.

A fresh new start!

It's 9am Friday morning, February 16! I feel fresh, clean and positive as I begin job hunting!

Last night got treated to dinner by my brother at Hurricanes Grill, Bondi. Loved the ribs and the steak was good too, almost better than the ribs. Got the steak done medium rare and it was pretty bloody, there was a really nice slightly sourish after taste which I'm still savouring now haha.

I've spent the last few days clearing up my stuff and readjusting to life here. It's getting better now, the sight of familiar faces and TV programs have helped me "recalibrate'' my settings.

Cultural Shock

I'm back in Sydney! Experiencing cultural shock, Australia feels so different and yet so familiar at the same time.

Mum came to pick me up from the airport, thank goodness everything was hassle free =)

In fact everything seemed pretty smooth, I was greeted to a view of a beautiful rainbow when I exited airport, it was only a momentary view but hopefully a sign of good things to come ;)

When I came home I immediately got myself into unpacking mode and started throwing things out of my suitcase like a madman. Got my gifts out first, the rest is just a blur. Got my internet on my desktop pc fixed which was something I absolutely had to do.

So hopefully I can settle back in faster so that I can get on with my life. Have to start looking and applying for jobs now, I feel as if I'm getting behind.

I'm in Melaka, in the same cybercafe I visit everytime I come back here.

I'm impressed this visit. The whole town looks refurbished, cleaner, the traffic flows better and I feel more positive about the place. After my trip to Penang I realise that our capital is a lot dirtier and more dangerous that other parts of this country. I've been enjoying the food, eating way too much but enjoying every morsel of the hawker stuff I've been eating.

It's so relaxing and "shufu" just to stroll outside at night and feel the night breeze. I'm wishing that they open up the reclaimed areas so that we can see the sea again.

Akon's "I wanna ...." song is playing in the background, really into his music despite the questionable lyrics haha. Caught a "foreigner" looking at porn just a few minutes ago, wow, very brazen of him.

Anyway I've got all these thoughts in my head I just want to pour out. In summary I'm glad that I chose to come back and clean up my Ah-Khong's (grandfather) house, to be back where my roots are. I'm glad that I chose to come back to do my PLT despite being in a different jurisdiction. Being neither an Aussie nor Malaysian I can safely say that I don't belong anywhere but home is always where the heart is which in my case is where my family is. So may God lead me onwards and may I always praise him everytime I feel self-doubt and self-consciousness.

Back from Penang

I've been on the beautiful island of Penang for the last four days. Had a great trip, the food is really good and I was surprised at how modern and clean (relatively) it was. It was nice to be in a Hokkien speaking culture as well, got to practise a bit with the locals.

The "Char Kway Tiao" in Penang is simply the best! Big prawns and full of taste yum yum.

Also got to visit the Butterfly Farm which was really educational and fun too. Had a Malaysian black scorpion rest on my hand, rest assured readers that it was perfectly safe to do so as the Malaysian species are not harmful to humans if they are fed.

Lacking in wisdom

"Bleach" (anime series, if you haven't heard about wikipedia it) has been a constant comfort to me in the year of 2006 and continues to be in the year of 2007. A source of entertainment, heroes that I admire, it really is as good as it gets.

Anyway I just want to be really introverted and say on my blog that I am a "vaizard".

I know I have the dark evil streak in me. And occassionally, just occasionally, do I let this inner demon out on the rampage, and it does cause a lot of damage, recklessly.

Anyone heard the new Chicken rice jingle?

It goes like this:-

It's been in my head the whole afternoon. I hate catchy jingles, this one is implanted in my brain forever.

My second last working week here in K.L. Finish line is almost there, but then I will have to a new "start" line. I'm trying to be positive but its hard to be, hope I don't get a bad dose of culture shock when I come home.

QQ Haircuts

Spent all afternoon at Mid Valley today, walked around alot, read the paper at Mcdonalds and regretted eating an M&M Mcflurry. Highlight of the day is going for a "QQ" Haircut. 12ringgit for a haircut in 12 minutes!

Its a Japanese concept I think, you look at the traffic light which is strategically placed in front of the store. If its green you gotta wait 15minutes, yellow 5-10 and you're good to go if its green. You go to the machine and insert 12 ringgit (no change) and a card will come out. You take your card, sit in your numbered seat and wait for your turn.

I'm very pleased with the haircut, feeling like a new man haha.

A few weeks ago an earthquake measuring 7.1 on the Richter hit the coast of Taiwan disrupting many trans Pacific under sea internet lines. People throughout asia were lamenting the lack of internet, and many bloggers throughout the blogosphere were left stranded in the desert of net-lessness.

It was weird not having internet, which is a sign of how much the net is part of our lives. Was thinking that it was a little sad that heaps of bloggers throughout Asia and the world were depressed as they couldn't pour our that emotions on their blogs.

Anyway I've kinda wasted the last hour at work today. Feeling too mentally tired to read, research or right. This guilty feeling is going to motivate me to do work at home, damn. haha Anyway will make time to read more "Eragon" on the bus tonight. Funny how reading is more interesting now that uni is over.

Its a brand new year, a brand new start and a brand new direction in life.

Sad that all the merry-making has been marred by blasts in Bangkok. The world is not in a good state, I can't help thinking about all the challenges our world faces at present. There are floods in southern Malaysia and parts of Indonesia, severe drought in Australia, political instability everywhere, a huge part of the Arctic broke off due to global warming, the list goes on and on.

I was at the Curve shopping mall in "Pets Paradise", a huge pet store has its own dog hotel (called the"Ritz") a dog grooming centre all in one. Its more like a zoo than a pet store as it even stocks racoon, star tortoises, boa snakes and peacocks. Anyway I digress, I was looking at the marine fish tanks and a story I read in the paper came to mind. Due to global warming the seas are becoming warmer and as a consequence coral territories in the Pacific, especially the Great Barrier Reef are dying out. This poses a huge problem to the eco system and ultimately everything in the circle of life is affected. The corals die out and the little fish that feed on the them die too, the big fish that feed on the little fish die out and it goes on and on. Looking at the beautiful coral specimens in the tank at Pets Paradise reminded me of this looming ecological disaster. Everything that was predicted in "Captain Planet" is coming true, its a scary reality and we cannot be oblivious to it anymore.

So I'm reminded this 1st January 2007 to be more proactive, both in action and in prayer. I'm reminded to give a damn about things that happen in this world and not be complacent and blaise about the things that really matter.

Peace on earth to all and Merry Christmas!

Was watching "Polar Express" at my cousin's place on Astro (Malaysian cable tv) last night. It was a nice feel good christmas movie, Christmas did indeed feel like Christmas this year.

Good thing about Christmas is that new year is just around the corner, another 2 days public holiday to yearn for.

Reminiscing

Went back to Melaka on Sat for a day trip, accomplished many things including fumigating part of Ah-Khong's house (love killing mosquitoes), developing photos, eating a 3 course lunch and dinner shortly after and visiting grandparents, not bad hahaha

But on the way back it was dark and suddenly I was transported way back to 2004 when we went on a trip to Port Stephens. On the way back to Sydney at 1 am at night taking a wrong turn to Newcastle, looking at the bright round moon, those were the times!

Happy times, anyway a week til Christmas would you believe, seasons' greetings to all ;)

I kinda wish I could go back to being 18. I would do things differently, I would have made different choices. Anyway I don't think I'll able to do so, not unless someone invents a time machine.

Wow Tuesday is over! It was my cousin's birthday today, went to eat "siu yok fan" at Cosway.
