Lantern hunting on Tuesday

Had a job interview today through a friend's recommendation, it went well but I'm not sure whether I get it because they may be more inclined to hire someone content to work part time hours.

After my interview, I went shopping, seemed the most logical thing to do since I was in the city. So I trekked all the way from Wynyard to Pitt Street Mall, weaved in and out of the malls there to get to David Jones, Myer, back out again on to Pitt Street and then followed the road up to Galleries Victoria. I didnt' find what I wanted to find unfortunately, guess I will have to keep on looking.

Then back down again to Town Hall station, and down George Street to Chinatown. Looked for Japanese style lanterns, couldn't find any, only the Chinese ones with 'Good luck' written on them.

Last day of onsite

I woke up early this morning and my heart was full of dread. I got to college and everyone, just like me, were dressed in suits. I felt nervous, I know I shouldn't have, after all I did prepare like 2 days earlier and doing a hearing in court was not exactly an unfamiliar practise.

I got into court room 307a, level 3 of the college building. Everybody was stressing, it made me stressed! I pulled a chair from the front row of the room and pulled it in the back corner so I could hide until it was time for my hearing. The judge came into the room and guess who's turn it was first? well, it was mine so no luck hiding in the back corner. I went up to the bar table and did my submission. Unfortunately I was not successful in getting my interlocutory order, but I did successfully establish the my client's contract was established in the US and not Australia. I think I did ok in the hearing.

I had lunch in the forum with some class mates in the Forum at St Leonards, discussed how we went in the hearing and college, and our backgrounds etc etc.

Time for assessment number two on the agenda, a plea in mitigation (pleading guilty to a crime). Lucky me I was number two on order of the list. I went up, slightly nervous because of I was unfamiliar with the judge. I went through my submissions and finished. The judge grilled me, unfairly in some respects, on my submission but said I had a confident and good style. Oh well, I was done!

Time to celebrate, wished good luck to my remaining class mates in the hearing room, rushed off to St Leonards station and waited for the train to take me to Chatswood for a shopping trip.
I ended up buying two dvds, I bought "Crash", an Academy award winning film I had not heard about for a present for a friend who recently turned 20, and the special edition 2 Disc Batman Begins DVD. Yay Batman! I'll watch it tonight.

Had sweet onion teriyaki sub for dinner, I don't think I'll be eating subway any time soon lol. Attended club o, life group was great, and then Malaysian Dance Party 2006! Skanked around for a few hours, got tired at 2am and then decided to leave. Walked from the station, a pleasant 25 min trek in the dark on a rain drenched road and now I'm here blogging away cos I feel like it.

Sydney Law Careers Fair

I went there today after college.

A few lawyer jokes I'd like to share.

How many lawyer jokes are there?

2, the rest are true.

What is the difference between lawyers and vultures?

Vultures don't earn frequent flyer points.

Why are lawyers buried deep deep under the ground?

Because deep deep down they have a heart.

Why don't sharks attack lawyers?

Professional courtesy.

I cracked up whilst reading these in the paper today. Have to find more on the net!

Advocacy Hearing

Day 4 of the midsite professional program: Advocacy Hearing.

Our exercise was to conduct an Examiniation-In-Chief (EIC) and Cross-Examination of witnesses in a mock criminal trial. It was basically like going to court.

I was pretty apprehensive about doing it initially, much like anything I do! I was paired up with someone who I couldn't get along with. I cut short my one hour lunch break to come back to the room and start work on the hearing.

Before long time was up and we had to go to the court rooms. Scared, anxious, nervous but not as much as when I was doing the "mention" on Tuesday.

It went well! It was quite fun actually! I made heaps of errors due my lack of complete knowledge of the facts. But my opponents and the acting magistrate and everyone in the class starting laughing at stuff which caused me to be less conscious. I wasn't as afraid to get up on the bar table and talk publicly as if putting forward arguments in court.

Anyway next week is going to be a killer, the work load and schedule of college is worse than uni. Pray that I get through next week alright =)

Its been so long since I went to school

well not really, but today was my first day of College of Law!

Didnt' get off to a great start, woke up at 8.30pm cos my alarm didn't go off at 7pm. Woke up, realised the time, *%^& I'm late!!! College started at 9.15am, had a quick instant "teh tarik" for breakfast then got a lift off mum to St Leonards.

College is a total bludge! We even had to do a personality test, the point was to assess our personalities and adapt ourselves when we approach negotiations. Watched a video, did a few practice "negotiations" in teams.

Had lunch at the Oportos in the Forum. The place has changed a lot since 2000, its been six years already since high school, the brick fence and dodgy bus stop has been replaced by nice buildings, shops, offices and restaurants. Seems like everytime I leave a place they renovate it and make it nice. The law faculty at UNSW is another prime example!

Tomorrow got Civil Litigation Exam at 10am. I started studying last week, it shouldn't be that bad, we'll see how I go I guess.

Can't handle the power of ADSL 2!

Being on ADSL 2 is like being on speed (not that I've taken any illegal substances in my life!)

Huge adrenalin rush, its freaky, fingers shaking, hallucinating!

maybe I should dota at home and practise? Don't think I'll be experiencing lag anymore! haha

Anyway just finishined my Activity 2 assignment, tmr got more work.

How good was prison break tonight? Poor guard, I hate that pedophile guy!!! Hope he dies, and soon!!!

Went to UTS library today, wow, pretty happening. So many people there and there was even a coffee cart outside.

Ok gonna wait for Justice League Unlimited!

Assignment packed week

College work is piling, its so weird how work can suddenly pile up! I was thinking to myself last few weeks, college is so bludgey, need to find some part time work as a paralegal to make life more interesting and the bank account richer, but I don't think I should actively seek work with the amount of stuff I have to do at the moment!

I've got my first exam for college next Tuesday, 2 hour Civil Litigation Exam. Should be fun for the whole family :P

Anyway got back from a 4hour session of DOTA, it was fun, more fun when our team won and I had good characters, but yeah, games are meant to be fun. Not much fun when its too competitive!
Big happy birthday to Ben and Gaston, who both turned a ripe old 24 on the 4th and 6th of this month respectively (I could hav mixed the dates wrong, sorry!)

Last night I stayed up til 2pm watching Buffy reruns on Channel 7. I think it was a repeat of Season 2, Buffy had to save her watcher Giles from Angellus and teamed up with Spike to do. It brought back heaps of memories to watch repeats, and I felt really nostalgic and even a little sad. Reminds me of all the angst, frustration and naivety of being a teenager! I was brought up on Buffy and I can proudly say she was and is one of my heroes :P haha plus Sarah MG is super cute haha

Repetition

Same thing day in day out. I resolve not to complain about the repetitiveness of my life because that would be whinging :P

I went to Club O yesterday for the first time! I had good company so it didn't feel so lonely, I found the service to be quite uplifting actually. I've spent the whole summer abroad without any bluesky or church so it was good to be back at church again. "Lifegroup" was good too, I actually started reading the book of Daniel last week at home during qt so maybe its not so much of a coincidence that we were doing a study on it at lifegroup. A sign perhaps?

In any case, today was a nice beautiful warm day. I like weather like this =)

So here's me being positive and not complaining about little things in life, this is not going to last for sure :P haha
