Safely back in KL

I'm home, home for the next 3 months. I'm at the beginning of my journey of self-discovery and independence. KL airport was great, really alive, buzzing and I must say, the architecture grows on me everytime I visit.

Feeling buggered so I'm going to hit the sack. So glad I have net access here, I'd be crazy without it. Can't wait to watch the next CSI installment, its up to episode 2 of the 7th series and the 1st episode ended on a cliffhanger. Suspenseful watching.

Blogging from the best airport in the world

I'm in Singapore! I've got a 4 hour wait til my boarding at 4.30pm. Arrived here last night at 7pm and got a taxi straight to the Changi hotel on Changi Road, in the "Geylang Serai" district. Hotel was a disappointment, really dingy, the room stank of smoke and the room wasn't very clean for Singapore standards. After checking in went to eat "fishball mee" outside which wasn't very good for Singapore standards either. It was the first time visiting this part of the island continent, very different from other parts as there are more Malays staying in this area. Felt a little bit like Malaysia but the food stalls sold different stuff or variations of food which I've seen before. For instance the "makan" stalls there were selling "yu char ikan" which is "yu char kuay" (fried bread sticks) with a piece of fish inside. Interesting.

Woke up this morning around 9am, went out to get the included breakfast at the hotel restaurant, which turned out better than I expected. Bombay toast ther was nice lol.

So I saved $15 SGD by taking the MRT from the station closest to the hotel to Changi airport. Fare turned out to be $1.50, cheap cheap cheap!!! Makes you realise how cityrail rips off us off in Sydney, one single trip from Central to the Airport at home costs around $9 AUD, whats with that? !

All around Spore is so much more efficient, clean and vibrant than Syd, but I'm still missing home. Forgot to mention that my flight here stopped in Adelaide for an hour to pick up passengers and the airport there was really surprising too. Couldnt' believe how nice, modern and spacious it was, I think I was preconditioned to not think much of Adelaide.

anyway will be in KL for the next 3 months getting legal training. Work starts on Monday =)

Isn't it supposed to be spring?

Bloody cold day today, wishing it was warmer. Finished Final Fight Streetwise like half an hour ago, took me like 10 attempts to beat the boss. Still have the bonus stages to play though hehe.

Went to dinner to catch up with people on Sunday. It was really good, good food and good company. Made the right choice by sharing a deluxe sushi and main sashimi set with a takoyaki side order hehe. Michitaro hasn't disappointed me so far, prices are not too bad either.

Anyway its back to normality tomorrow, time to mow the grass!

Chinese idioms

Was stuck upstairs in my room today so I had some time to clear up my old stuff. Went through all my notes at uni and found something really interesting, my old chinese notes!

Here are some pearls of wisdoms I gleamed from classical chinese class. These are "cheng yu" or idioms I think.

Zou ma kan hua - "riding a horse while looking at flowers" (translated as having a cursory glance at something)

Qi Hu Nan Xia - "once you've climbed a tiger its hard to get off" (used to describe the difficulty in getting out of something)

You never know what you find lurking in your closets.

Catching up with old friends

After frantically organising my free flight back this morning rushed off to the city and met old friends for lunch. It was good, haven't seen them for ages and somehow the connection is still there. We reminisced about the old times, talked about anime and careers, went k for 2 hours at Red Box, went for dinner at Sea Bay. Today reminded me of 4 year uni, carefree and relaxed.

K was cool! haven't been in a while and there were so many songs to sing, range was a bit small though. My voice is as horrible as ever but with more practise I'm sure I'll be ready to hit the Red Boxes in KL soon hehe

Anyway I'm stinking of smoke and its time for a bath before I start playing Capcom's Final Fight Streetwise again.

Extract from my blog on myspace (*guilty grin ^^)

Disorientated, a little tired, out of touch with reality, thats the way I'm feeling at the moment. Haven't done very much on myspace at all, actually I feel a little guilty about not using blogger!

Anyway woke up at 12:30 noon today after 12 hours of solid sleep. Went to lunch at chinese restaurant with family, had "zongzi" (rice dumpling Cantonese style), Shanghainese noodles and fish congee but there was no "yao char guai" (breadsticks) unfortunately.

So tonight I was busy doing admin stuff, reading all the letters that have accumulated over the last 1.5 months and going online to check stuff.

Hmm why not treat myself and watch "Alfie" on DVD now?! lol

Melaka really is a small town

He he he I'm sitting at the net cafe I go to at night and the second person I see is Tee from the photo store! He invites us to play Dota with him and his friends but we politely decline, both of us aren't lanners and we need to use the net more, gotta check up on the Men's US Open Final results! Actually I found out the result earlier when watching the Malay news bulletin on NTV7 but couldn't fully understand the commentary hehehe.

Anyway been having a good relaxing time here in Melaka. It was initially really tiring as we were all hit badly with jet lag, waking up at 2.30am in the morning drives you feverishly insane, don't know how all those business people get used to it.

Tonight I was so greedy, I'm like rolling tub of fat now! After a huge dinner with my grandparents at their place which consisted of "ikan pari" (sting ray - revenge for Steve Irwin), "tau hu", "pai kwat wong" and "pong teh" we went to eat supper. Hmm hmm, I'm still thinking about wonderful "or chien" (oyster omelette) and Ais Kacang, I think I can go for a supper a few times before going home.

Last night in London

Wow, I've done so much walking and running in the last 6 hours that I think I have worked off all the fat I've put on this holiday from the constant consumption of gelato, chunky kit-kats and KFC.

On a self-guided tour today we covered Covent Carden, Leceister Square, Knightsbridge, Chinatown/SOHO district, Trafalgar Square, Buckingham Palace, St James Park and Wesminster! After the tour went to see "We Will Rock You", a Queen inspired rock musical by Ben Elton at the Dominion Theatre. Twas really good, was reminded of their hits, especially the spine-tingling melancholic ballad "Bohemian Rapsody".
