Best film of 2006

I think I probably said that Pirates 2 was the best film of the year a few months ago, but having seen "the Prestige" yesterday I think I'll have to review that statement.

Bottom line, go see it. Loved it, great story, great script, great acting, great actors, really intriguiging plot and fantastic atmosphere. I really felt like I was in some other world when I was watching it, like how it used to feel when we were kids and watched Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in Roxy Parramatta, those were the days!

Spent the entire afternoon at KLCC again today. Ended up looking at phones again, I can't help it its part of the culture! Also got time to read "Seven Ancient Wonders" by Matt Reilly, a fellow UNSW law grad who's made it big writing fiction, which really got my synapses working.

Anyway time to sleep

Back to Work

Its Thursday after the Raya celebrations and I'm back at work. Strangely enough I'm feeling really really happy! The haze has cleared, the sun is out, my hair is cut and I'm wearing white. Things are great =)

Anyway its back to work, got stuff due next week so hopefully I'll get a chance to see "Prestige" this weekend and blog my review soon.

Happy Deepavali and Hari Raya!

Its a double celebration here in Malaysia, with Deepavali (Hindu festival of lights) on Sat past and the two days of Hari Raya which falls tomorrow and the day after.

I'm in my hometown spending time with family and relatives. Eating too much good food, not getting enough exercise, and just enjoying my free time.

Getting away from it all is therapeutic, you think with such a clear mind. Earlier today went for a reflexology massage on the invitation of a relative, it was, in a word, painful not to mention slightly embarrassing to be quarter naked in a massage room with other noisy people around.

Mondayitis

I resolve to sleep very very early tonight, I don't want to feel the way I do now tomorrow morning. Groggy, sleepy, negative, grumpy... if only I could just sleep here and now.

Anyway I want to start off the week on a positive note, after we're all getting a special long weekend because of Hari Raya and Deepavali next week =) Can't wait for Friday night, can't wait to celebrate.

But in the meantime its back to work and back to getting my mind in focus again =)

Hazy days

KL and most of Malaysia and Singapore is blanketed in smog at the moment, lovely. Its raining, or rather was raining heavily before around lunch. Was quite worried that the lightning would blast the office and my work on my laptop harddisk would be all wiped out.

By the way, isn't it unhygienic for a guy to answer his "hand phone" whilst taking a leak?

And isn't it wrong to download and listen to mp3s at work?

And what is more insulting? Being called "uncle" by a 5 year old kid OR being asked to do qigong because I'm a "laolang" (old geezer)?!

All I wanna do is retire and work as a convenience store operator or garbage man in Japan, in Okinawa during summer and Hokkaido in winter.

Lantern Festival October 2006

The Malay kids are so cute, festivals which cross racial and religious differences is what its all about.

Survived my first working week

Aaah, its Friday afternoon 5.55pm I've got 5 mins before I clock off. I've survived my first week at work, its been challengin, very intimidating at times and now I feel a great sense of relief as the working week draws to a close.

Legal work is not much fun, lots and lots and lots of reading. So many cases, its hard enough trying to understand whats going on sometimes. A great sense of satisfaction comes from getting positive feedback from stuff which you've done though, I've got a long way to go and so much more to learn but I feel that I've made a good start to my 15 week stint here in KL.

The haze here is unbelievably thick and the traffic just as bad but this place still has its charm. Have so many happy childhood memories here, I can even recall mid-autumn festival here when I was like 3. Now I'm 24, its mid-autumn festival 2006 and the world is a different place. I've got my lanterns ready, all three of them, with multi-coloured "caise lazhu" from china for tonight!
